Remote Administration & Maintenance Software

The 5600 remote software package allows the installer to program the complete 5000 system via a PC or remotely. It allows for changes to any parameter except the ID of the particular device. It allows for upload and download of any changes. It allows for the system records to be saved for maintenance purposes in a pictorial or complete format as a file or printed. This connects via the Ethernet port and communicates via TCP/IP

With the 5600 Remote software, you can:

  • Prepare the system programming even before the system is built.
  • Easily program an entire system.
  • Easily generate documentation for the bus structure and all system programming.
  • Keep a backup of all system programming.
  • Manage programming of radio devices.
  • Monitor alarms and bus traffic (helps when troubleshooting).
  • “Ping” system components, to verify that they are connected and operational.

The 5600 Remote package was designed and tested under the following conditions:

 

  • Windows 2000/XP
  • 10-100 Mb Ethernet adapter

LAN / WAN Network Connection

Programming of the unit is normally done through the Remote Programmer 5600 software, thus the unit must be connected to a computer, either directly to the Ethernet port or via a network. Some parameters can be programmed using the 8200 programmer.

 

Local mode

IP Address

The IP address must match the IP number given to the OMNI. The default is 192.168.0.235.

The Port number must not be change.

Internet

Internet connection

To connect via Internet (System 5000 Server), you must type in the Site ID (Serial Number of the OMNI hardware) and the password, both of which are found on the label on back of the OMNI enclosure.

Local connection

  • Connect the Ethernet port to a computer using a cross-linked Ethernet cable.
  • Set the computer network port to IP 192.168.0.2 and Netmask 255.255.255.0. This procedure is thoroughly described in the Remote programmer technical handbook.
  • Hold down the Configuration Switch while powering up the 8300, until the System Status Indicator flashes slowly (once a second).
  • Start Remote and add an 8300 to the products list.
  • Find parameter 9006 and set it to 02.
  • Change the IP address and Netmask if necessary.
  • Export changed parameters.

Internet connection using DHCP

  • DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a method of automatic configuration. If the network supports DHCP, the process of setting up an Internet connection for 8300 is rather straightforward:
  • Connect the Ethernet port to a network switch using a straight patch cable.
  • The Link LED (yellow) is lit immediately.
  • The System Status Indicator starts flashing rapidly within a minute. This indicates that the system has verified its connection to the Internet.

Manually configured Internet connection

  • If the network requires manual configuration:
  • Connect the Ethernet port to a computer using a cross-linked Ethernet cable.
  • Set the computer network port to IP 192.168.0.2 and Netmask 255.255.255.0. This procedure is thoroughly described in the Remote programmer technical handbook.
  • Hold down the Configuration Switch while powering up the 8300, until the System Status Indicator flashes slowly (once a second).
  • Start Remote and add an 8300 to the products list.
  • Find parameter 9006 and set it to 00. Set up IP address, Gateway and DNS addresses as required by the network.
  • Export changed parameters.
  • Disconnect network and power from the 8300.
  • Connect the Ethernet port to a network switch using a straight patch cable.
  • The Link LED (yellow) is lit immediately.
  • The System Status Indicator starts flashing rapidly within a minute. This indicates that the system has verified its connection to the Internet.
